The Municipality of Medellin reaffirmed its commitment to digital transformation during the eGovPH App and eLGU Roadshow organized by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) on October 29, 2025, at the Mezzo Hotel, Cebu City.

Representatives from ICT Medellin, the Treasury Office, and the Municipal Engineering Office participated in the event, which highlighted the government’s efforts to implement Republic Act No. 11032, also known as the Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Delivery Act of 2018. The law aims to make government transactions faster, simpler, and more transparent for citizens.

Medellin has already applied for system onboarding under the eGovPH and eLGU programs. Although some adjustments were made due to the recent earthquake, DICT has prioritized the municipality for its first-quarter training schedule next year. Once implemented, these digital systems will enable residents to apply for business and building permits, secure cedulas, and access other e-services online.

This initiative represents another significant step in Medellin’s journey toward a smarter, more connected, and citizen-friendly local government.

As early as now, Mayor Edwin Salimbangon has called for a Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment (PDRA) meeting together with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), department heads, School Board representatives, and barangay captains to prepare for a possible typhoon that may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) next week and could affect Northern Cebu, including Medellin.

During the meeting, the MDRRMO presented the latest updates from PAGASA and discussed possible scenarios once the weather disturbance develops and moves closer to the country.

Mayor Salimbangon underscored the importance of acting early, especially now that Medellin is still recovering from the 6.9 magnitude earthquake and its series of aftershocks. He noted that several evacuation centers sustained major structural damage, making them unsafe to use in their current condition.
To ensure the safety of evacuees, the Mayor directed all barangay officials to immediately assess safe and stable buildings within their respective barangays that can serve as temporary evacuation centers in case the typhoon affects the municipality. He also instructed the MDRRMO and the Municipal Engineer’s Office to assist in validating the safety and capacity of these identified structures.

The LGU urges everyone to stay calm but vigilant, follow only official advisories from PAGASA and LGU Medellin, and refrain from spreading unverified information.
